Dining Out

Eating out is something we have the ability to do daily--we have L&L, McDonalds, Ala Moana food court and other tasty fast food restaurants, however, studies have found that eating out frequently is associated with greater weight gain, obesity, greater body fat and higher LDL cholesterol.  So....what do we do?  Talk to your families and decide--how often do we want to eat out together?  Is there a place that we consider a treat and do weekly?  As a family you can also discuss healthier alternatives such as eating a salad instead of French fries or maybe brown rice instead of white rice.  Ask the question...What sort of healthier options do our dine-out restaurants provide?

Some fast food restaurants will also have calorie information posted on their menu board.  The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act requires chain restaurants and food vendors with 20 or more locations nationwide to post calorie information on menus and menu boards.  It is important to take a look at this information as it may help you make a better decision.

As we all love to eat out, try to make healthier choices as you enjoy your favorite restaurants.  Our families and health are important.
