Eating Healthy in the Summer

Eating healthy during the summer can be hard!  Think about it: beach barbeques, holiday parties, 4th of July and so many more events where foods high in fat, sodium and sugar are offered in endless amounts.  Here are some ways you can eat healthier this summer.

  • Drink water before eating, sometimes thirst can trigger feelings of hunger
  • Go for the vegetables/salad first, fiber can help you feel full and therefore help you eat less junk food
  • Be aware of the portions you are serving yourself
  • Choose grilled rather than fried
  • Go for seconds of fruits and vegetables if you are still hungry
  • Be mindful that talking story while eating can lead to overeating
  • Choose healthy snacks like slices of fruit and vegetables to snack on
  • Remember to take your time
