KIWI-KIDNEY INTERACTIVE WORKSHOP & INFORMATION
The objective of KIWI is to improve the self-management skills of those with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) stages 2 and 3, including those with diabetes and hypertension. By teaching individuals how to make basic life style changes, we hope to prevent the progression of their CKD.
EACH KIWI CONSISTS OF THE FOLLOWING 4 SESSIONS:
SESSION 1: MEET YOUR KIDNEYS
This is an introductory class on your kidneys. It will enable you to identify warning signs of kidney disease and give you tools to make better decisions about your health.
SESSION 2: NUTRITION
Food. We can’t live without it, but we can certainly learn how to make healthy choices. A cooking demonstration will allow you to see, smell & taste.
SESSION 3: PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
Get moving! Learn different types of physical activities that we normally don’t think of as exercise.
SESSION 4: STAY IN TUNED
Go on a Supermarket Tour, apply your knowledge and shop for healthier food choices.
Each session will be conducted by health professionals such as physicians, diabetes nurse educators, registered dieticians, and exercise leaders.
