Each year, more than half a million people go to emergency rooms for kidney stone problems. It is estimated that one in ten people will have a kidney stone at some time in their lives. This one-hour class will go over the four types of kidney stones, symptoms and risk-factors, prevention tips, and treatments for kidney stones.

Diabetes Prevention Program

Diabetes Prevention Program

Want to lose weight, prevent Type 2 diabetes, and take control of your health once and for all? Transform your lifestyle and become part of a motivated, healthy community by joining a Diabetes Prevention Program cohort led by an experienced Lifestyle Coach. Topics include eating healthier, adding physical activity to your life on a time crunch, coping with stress, and getting back on track with your progress. This program is offered in partnership with the YMCA of Honolulu.

Schedule: Year-round. Contact us for next availability.

Length: This is a year-long program. You will meet weekly for 16 sessions, every other week for 3 sessions, and monthly for the remaining 6 months.

Eligibility: Open to all adults (age 18+) who meet BMI and blood test score criteria. Please contact us for more information.

Cost: $690 for one year. Monthly payment plans are available. May be covered by health insurance. Contact your insurance provider or view our list of active insurance partners.

Eating Smart for Your Kidneys

Join us for this series about nutrition, grocery shopping tips, and easy, healthy recipes. Complete the course to receive a Foodland gift card! Mahalo to our supporters, including the City & County of Honolulu, Foodland, ChefZone, and the Leeward Community College Culinary Arts Program.

Schedule: Seats available for classes in August-December 2021.

Length: Four virtual classes and goal-setting with a dietitian.

Choosing Treatment Options

This class empowers patients with late stage chronic kidney disease (stages 4-5), who have been on dialysis for 0 – 6 months to make an informed choice about treatment options. Learn about in-clinic hemodialysis, home hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis (PD), and palliative care.

Schedule: Year-round. Contact us for next availability.

Length: 1 hour presentation and personalized support for 3 months.

Eligibility: Open to adults (age 18+) who have been on dialysis for 0 - 6 months with a referral from a nephrologist or a dialysis clinic.

Cost: No cost to participant.

Kidney Options for Patient Empowerment (KOPE)

Kidney Options for Patient Empowerment (KOPE)

For patients with late stage chronic kidney disease (stages 4-5), our KOPE class provides information about treatment options, insurance, and how to partner with your doctor and healthcare team.

Length: 90 minutes.

Eligibility: Open to the community.

Better Choices, Better Health

Better Choices, Better Health

Get online support from people just like you in a small group setting. Learn to manage long-term health conditions, such as arthritis, heart disease, diabetes, sleep apnea, and depression, to improve your quality of life.

Schedule: Year-round. Contact us for next availability.

Length: Six weeks. This is a self-paced online course that allows you to log in at your convenience every week.

Eligibility: Open to all adults (age 18+) who have been clinically diagnosed with a chronic condition such as arthritis, diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, kidney disease, and/or lung disease.

Cost: No cost to participant.

Gain the tools to manage and cope with diabetes. Learn how to set achievable goals, take control of your nutrition, increase your energy with exercise, care for your skin and feet, manage stress, and partner with your caregivers and healthcare team.

Length: Six weeks, one 2.5-hour session per week.

Eligibility: Open to all adults (age 18+) who have been clinically diagnosed with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes. Caregivers and spouses are also welcome.

Healthy Together

Healthy Together

Healthy Together is a 10-week evidence-based program for children 6-13 years old at risk for obesity, overweight, or obese. The family-based obesity prevention program emphasizes three elements: healthy eating, reducing sedentary time, and behavior changes to elicit a positive, lifelong lifestyle transformation. The program includes a Family Information Session followed by 20 sessions delivered over 10 Weeks. The program, made up of groups of 4 to 10 keiki and their adults, creates a safe, fun, and active environment for keiki and their families to explore and adopt proven methods for living a healthier lifestyle. To qualify, a child must have a parent or guardian attend all sessions, have a BMI of greater than 85, receive clearance from a medical provider through a referral to participate in physical activity, and be age 6-13. If one member of your ohana qualifies, the siblings are eligible to participate as well.

Eligibility: Open to keiki 6-13 years old with a BMI greater than 85, accompanied by a parent or guardian. Must receive clearance from a medical provider through a referral, to participate in physical activity.
